Excerpted from the Grapevine Visitors Guide:

Grapevine, Texas is one of the oldest settlements in North Texas, originating under the Lone Star Flag in 1844, one year before statehood. The settlement's namesake was the tart, wild mustang grapes which grew so abundantly in the area. Today, Grapevine celebrates its history with an extensive restoration project, recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, and an annual GrapeFest, attended by over 160,000 citizens and visitors.

Grapevine's 40,000+ citizens enjoy the warmth of downtown's turn-of-the century atmosphere along side the state-of-the-art design of the Grapevine Convention Center. There are three public golf courses in Grapevine, one designed by golfing legend, Byron Nelson. One mile north of downtown, is Grapevine Lake. With its 146 miles of shoreline it has become the premier windsurfing, sailing and fishing area in North Texas.

Located within the city limits is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the world's second busiest airport. The city boasts 2,350 luxury rooms in three superb hotels. Several hundred additional mid-priced rooms are available.

The city is located 21 miles northwest of Dallas and 19 miles northeast of Fort Worth, providing convenient access to big city amenities. But with its own live entertainment, over 130 restaurants, shopping, golf, theatres, festivals, wineries, etc., residents and visitors alike enjoy the comforts of Grapevine, Texas.
